The existing old mains water pipe runs straight through the middle of the culvert (underground watercourse) under Middle Road and has caused serious blockages – as we discovered in a 2013 CCTV survey.
The aim of the current Wessex Water work is to drill through the stone bed beneath the culvert using a “mole” drill and lay a new pipe underneath the culvert out of harm’s way. The old pipe will be cut and removed from the culvert – and capped off at the ends.
This work will, hopefully, alleviate one of the biggest flood risks in the village. A diagram illustrating the work is shown below.
