In 2012 the RM Smith playing field in Brent Road, Cossington became the first in Somerset to achieve the coveted status of a Queen Elizabeth II Playing Field.

Cossington Parish Council are keen to ensure that the field, children’s play area and related equipment and facilities are maintained and developed in a manner that best suits the needs of the village and surrounding community.

To this end the Parish Council has formed a Playing Field Management Committee to give this important village asset the focus it deserves - following the "recruitment campaign" earlie rin the year.

The committee comprises three members of the Parish Council - Joe Stradling, Martin Dare and Lynn Woodward – in addition to Andy Staunton from Red Tile FC (one of the current key users) and residents Pauline Hicks and Cam Downing – with Cam representing the younger members of the Parish.

The new committee aims to raise funds towards the continued improvement and maintenance of our award winning facility to make it even better – with a specific goal to greatly improve the area to the west of the car park (including the toilets and changing rooms) which is generally acknowledged to be in need of regeneration to bring it in line with the rest of the field.
